Shon was born and raised in Laupahoehoe, Hawai’i where he grew up hunting and fishing. From a young age, Shon played basketball and as he got older, his involvement in sports expanded to include baseball, volleyball, swimming and track & field.

Shon experienced much success as an athlete being selected as the State of Hawaii’s All-State Athlete of the Year as a senior at Hilo High School. He has been part of world championship teams traveling to various parts of the world and coming back as winners of the Pacific Zone Tournament in Japan, the Pony World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania, the Colt World Championship in Lafayette, Indiana and the Super World Series in Alabama. After his high school career, Shon attended the University of Southern California on a baseball scholarship. He continued his success on the field becoming USC’s starting center fielder as a freshman and also winning a PAC-10 championship before his four year career was over.

Shon first began coaching in 2006 when his oldest son starting playing t-ball. Throughout the years, he has always coached several age divisions during the baseball season and became even more involved when his youngest son began playing baseball as well. As a coach, Shon has had the honor of being the Manager of the 1st ever Hilo Pony Pinto team to represent Hawai’i in the Pinto World Series in San Jose, CA. Since then, Shon has been the Manager of the 2013 Hilo Mustang Division Championship team, 2013 Mustang 9’s All-Star team and 2014 Mustang post season teams.

For many years there has been a desire on Shon’s part along with a demand for him to begin his own sports organization. With the support of his family, Shon founded the Hui and established the core values – Loyalty. Commitment. Dedication – that is expected to be displayed throughout the Hui from the board, coaches, players, parents and volunteers.

Shon is also the Vice President of the Hilo Pony Baseball Board of Directors, which is the second largest league in the State of Hawai’i and has been Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Certified for several years.

Shon brings the heart, wisdom and vision to the Hui and is committed to building positive (pilina) relationships with others. We feel so blessed to have a founder like Shon that has experienced so much in his life and is giving back his knowledge and love of the game of baseball to our youth, ‘ohana and community as President of Hui ‘Aumākua Sports, Inc. Executive Board.  Mahalo nui!
